Tears of Min Brock by: J. E. Lowder
Tears of Min Brock synopsis:
When Elabea, a girl of fourteen summers, hears a whisper calling her name, she asks, “Is this proof that the land of Claire wasn’t destroyed in the Dark War?” But her question ignites fear in her village. “The Oracles of the Cauldron forbid you to speak…the name! Death will come! We will be cursed!”
Furthermore, when her best friend, Galadin, rallies beside her, the villagers divulge a dark secret: their fathers were the only survivors of the massacre at Min Brock. Forged as outcasts of their own homes and village, they fear the worst when the Cauldron sends warriors to destroy them.
Desperate, they flee to Claire where Elabea is promised to become an all-powerful storyteller and Galadin a great warrior. But does Claire exist? And if it does, will it be an ally or a greater foe?
Battling whispers, warriors and mysterious creatures, Elabea and Galadin must also contend with the darker questions about their fathers’ past and the…Tears of Min Brock.
Here’s what others are saying…
“I found this to be one of my favorite books of the year, and am looking forward to the sequel. Lowder writes a story that does not disappoint.” Tic Toc review
“As the book began, I thought the characters of Elabea and Galadin reminded me of Katniss and Gale from Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games. Loyal to each other, they have each others’ backs, and they dream of a life outside the oppressed town in which they live.” Literary R&R
“I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy novels lately, but this one stuck out. This idea was so original. The idea of the war of whispers was intriguing and fresh. There was still the battle by swords, but the main battle was being fought by whispers one from the Cauldron, the evil whisper, and one from the Only, the good whisper.” Taking it One Page at a Time
“...Tears of Min Brock hooked me from the beginning!!” Amazon Reviewer

Heads & Tales by: Karina Kantas
Brief description
Heads & Tales is a collection of thought provoking somewhat dark, flash and short fiction. There are twenty eight tales in the genres of horror, sci-fi, romance, thriller, comedy, fantasy. Thirteen of these stories have already been published and the collection includes the award winning horror story Crossed.I loved this book! It's a quick read with so many amazing short stories! Each one could be expanded into it's own novel! They get you thinking! Some have clever endings, some are emotional, some are classic plotlines-never a dull moment here! You will really enjoy each one. - USA
If you are after a collection of short stories, that take only a moment to read but keep you thinking for a long while after, then this is the book for you.
One of the things I love about this book, is that each tale is like a sudden blast of energy. Each quick tale is like the best scene out of a film, of the climax to a powerful piece of music. Snappy, and straight to the point.
Whether the tales are about the battle between good and evil, of the end of the earth, there is something in this book for everyone.
- UKThough none of these stories is in a genre I usually gravitate to, each one held me strongly with Karinas powerful, spare and technicoloured writing. Her take on the theme of vampires had me both gripping the table with my fingertips and simultaneously laughing. The romance between the lost heiress and her noble rescuer was pure Malory. The vision of the terrors of the clown or of the ring which caught unwary souls, all show Karina's ability to weave dreams and nightmares with a vividness which is like a shock of cold water on a hot morning.
-UKAn astonishing diverse collection of writing ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous via so many voices in between - Djibril-

Twin Bred by: Karen A. Wyle
Description:
Humans have lived on Tofarn, planet of creeks and rivers, for seventy years, but they still don’t understand the Tofa. The Tofa are an enigma, from their featureless faces to the four arms that sometimes seem to be five. They take arbitrary umbrage at the simplest human activities, while annoying their human neighbors in seemingly pointless ways. The next infuriating, inexplicable incident may explode into war.
Scientist Mara Cadell has a radical proposal: that host mothers carry fraternal twins, human and Tofa, who might understand each other better. Mara knows about the bond between twins: her own twin Levi died in utero, but she has secretly kept him alive in her mind as companion and collaborator.
The human Council approves the project. The Tofa agree to cooperate, although no one is sure they understand the project’s purpose. In fact, the Tofa have their own agenda. And so does one member of the Council, who believes the human colonists should have wiped out the Tofa before setting foot on Tofarn. Mara must shepherd the Twin-Bred project through dangers she anticipated and others that even the canny Levi could not foresee.
The Twin-Bred were born to bring peace to their two peoples. But will their unique upbringing leave them too different, too alien, to achieve this goal? Will Councilman Kimball turn the Tofa Twin-Bred into a weapon against their own species? And what is it the Tofa really want?
Reviews:
"Now and then I read a really good book, and this is one of the best....I would love a sequel to this beautifully written, captivating novel." - Ellen Ghyll, author
"Twin-Bred is one of the best science fiction novels I've read in decades. It is literary fiction as well as S-F...one of the most original stories I've ever read....beautifully written and riveting." - R. Lee Holz, author
"[A] classic science fiction tale spun in a well thought-out and interesting manner....I've been a fan of SciFi for most of my 70 years and find the premise out of the ordinary and quite fascinating. I recommend this to all ages." - Dale Day, author
"An original and beautifully written SciFi story....All in all a beautiful, thought provoking tale. I will keep an eye out for Wyle's next book." - Pearls Cast Before a McPig
The story is tense and fascinating, as we are taken through the intricacies of plot and counter-plot . . . . A bold idea, which may capture the imagination of many people, but in particular womb twin survivors will enjoy the moments of insight when the world realises what twins have to offer." - Womb Twin Survivors
"This was such a unique and quite riveting story. I enjoyed every minute. Karen did a remarkable job in fleshing out her characters and the world they live in. So much so, in fact, that it left me wanting to read more. . . All in all, it’s quite a great read and I truly recommend it to others for reading." - Simplistik Halloz Books
"This is a fascinating read. The subject of inter-species relations caught my eye but when I saw that the idea was to start diplomatic relations before birth, I had to see where Karen was going with this idea. What she did was write a great sci-fi novel! I am very selective about the sci-fi I read . . . This is a must read for sci-fi fans everywhere!" - Mommy's Reading Too
"This book was fab-you-less. . . When you start gathering together strings of words that include interspecies diplomacy, intriguing, government, enigma, and ever-cynical (and those are just from the blurb!), you’re sure to catch my eye. When you couple that with compelling writing, complex and interesting characters, a plot heavy on intrigue and drama (heavy, that is, without being melodramatic) and a unique setting, well, you’re sure to catch much more than my eye. You’ll also catch my interest and my admiration. . . . This is a truly unique trip into a novel, intriguing, and reader-friendly world that is populated by a mixture of good guys, bad guys, and aliens – and believe me, you will shake your head more than once along the way as you try to decide which characters fall within which categories. . . She also sets the ending up nicely for a sequel – and boy oh boy do I hope she’s writing one!" - All Things Jill-Elizabeth

Hurricane Regina by: Jason Z. Christie
Hurricane Regina by Jason Z. Christie
A Young Adult Fantasy Adventure Novel
Excerpt:
While Dan slept, Regina could not. Tom’s library was enthralling. Tome after dusty tome, they were dusty leather-bound first editions, some handcrafted or handwritten.
There seemed to be records of everything under the sun, even cryptozoology: yeti, Nessie, thunderbirds and more. Regina viewed a photo of a fifty-foot long snake and shuddered.
Some volumes referred to distinctly alien races, while others revealed Earth’s past. Apparently with the boom/bust syndrome the human race suffers from constantly retossing the gene pool, the archetypes of Tolkien were remnants of genetic memories. They called back to an earlier time when people were more elvish, more orcish. When wizards did walk the face of the earth alongside dragons.
Or so Regina read, anyway. She perused books into the morning, finally closing her eyes as the artificial sun began to beam. But her dreams were not pleasant. She had visions of Eden in flames, of crying animals being claimed by the sea. Regina tossed and moaned.

Ash: Return of the Beast by Gary Val Tenuta
SYNOPSIS:
Ash: Return of the Beast is an occult crime thriller, a work of fiction based on a little known factoid about the death of Aleister Crowley (1875-1947), the notorious occultist the British press once called "The Wickedest Man In The World". Crowley’s body was cremated but the whereabouts of his funerary ashes has remained a mystery… until now.
This diabolical tale carries the reader through a series of the most curious (and sometimes unsettling) events spanning the years from 1947(and the death of Aleister Crowley) to the 1990s and the coming-of-age (and eventual stardom) of a "death-metal" rocker named Rodney Duckworth.
The time-line shifts to the present day where Brian Kane, a gruff and gritty, street-worn Seattle Police Detective, reluctantly teams up with the mysterious Rowena Ravenwood, an attractive female FBI agent. Their task is to figure out why good, healthy, God-fearing preachers in their fair city are suddenly dropping dead.
What is the meaning of the strange symbols branded onto the bodies of these hapless victims? Are they all part of some bizarre cult? No eyewitnesses. No fingerprints. Is it really murder? Where’s the evidence? What, if anything, can all of this have to do with the disappearance of Crowley's ashes six decades ago? And what is the disturbing secret that Detective Kane is holding so close to his chest?
The investigation catapults Kane and Ravenwood headlong into life-threatening situations as they wind their way through the dark labyrinth of the world of the occult and find themselves battling for their lives against the powerful forces of ritual magick.
Problem is, the clues to help solve the case are in terribly short supply. Worse yet, so is the amount of time left to stop the mysterious killer's reign of terror before all Hell breaks loose. And – according to Special Agent Ravenwood – that’s not just a figure of speech.

The Only Way to Paradise by: G.G. Vandagriff
“Unforgettable!”
“What is that hard to define quality that makes a book memorable? Is it complex and interesting characters? Is it a captivating plot with unexpected twists and turns? Maybe it's the setting and the "feel" of the book. Or, perhaps, it's the ability to connect with the story, tap into that magical "relatability" factor that lingers long after the last page has been read.
Any one of these elements is vital to a story, but rarely do we find books that have all of these qualities. However, The Only Way to Paradise is such a book.”–Michele Bell, Best-Selling Romance Author. (One of many 5-star reviews)
What causes picture-perfect suburban Oakwood residents, MacKenzie, Roxie, Sara, and Georgia to desert their therapist and fly off to Florence? Answer: A romantic Italian movie that prompts Roxie to ask: “If Italy is so healing and therapeutic what are we doing in Ohio?”
Even Sara, the most duty-bound of the group, finally joins the pact they dub “The Crazy Ladies of Oakwood,” and only a week later, they find themselves in Florence. Embraced by the entire province of Tuscany, each woman becomes entangled in experiences she could never have foretold. Not only do they find the fascinating Italian men that Georgia promised, but new sides to themselves and each other.
Against the glittering background of Florence, their dramas play out:
MacKenzie returns to her student days as an art historian, discarding her identity as the controlling Oakwood charity patron and society hostess. Renewing her acquaintance with the David, she vows to let herself be sculpted rather than trying to sculpt others. MacKenzie finds not only a new talent, but a new man who appreciates it, just as her husband decides to re-enter her life.
Roxie, who has always approached life as a circus, is drawn unwillingly into a passionate romance with a gorgeous Italian professor, Stefano. Her physical response to Stefano taps into lost memories, causing her to literally run from him. Roxie, a quirky and colorful Cubana, senses danger in visions and smells that resurface of a rotting summerhouse behind her Florida home. With his nurturing and passionate love, Stefano helps her to face the “broken piece” inside her.
Sara unveils part of her that no one but her instructors know. She is an extraordinarily talented concert violinist. Normally trapped in the demanding life of an ob-gyn (scripted for her by her Vietnamese immigrant parents), she is temporarily freed. She performs for others for the first time, and experiences unprecedented joy. However, the coping mechanism she used to handle the pressure of her job threatens to destroy her new life.
Georgia, a grieving widow, processes her life without Ben and without her violin career that ended early because of arthritis. Looking for a new passion in life, she finds that satisfaction comes to her in “giving back” to those around her the lessons and knowledge she has learned through her successes and mistakes in La Dolce Vita. Just as her perspective is changing, she reunites with her first love, Arturo, and must make a decision about the direction of her future life.
Though ages have passed since the rebirth called the Renaissance, Florence still inspires change by breathing out its creative mix of energy, beauty, and courage. Where Michelangelo “set free” the David by sculpting a block of marble, each “crazy lady” finds her exterior “Oakwood” self burnished away by new experiences, revealing a new self. This burnishing is not a gentle process, but exuberant Italians help them through it with their all-embracing agape, or unconditional love. Though they do not know it, each of them hungers for agape’s healing power. They discover in it a balm that binds them together and puts them on the road to recovery, the road that is “The Only Way to Paradise.”

Just before her thirteenth birthday, Tangi learns the truth about her father's strange legacy: the three bottles aren't empty any more. They're filled with all the tears she's cried since her father died, and her tears are enchanted. She must use them to travel to Rosevine, the world of her dead mother. There Is No Hope Here by: Richard Biggs
Brief Synopsis:
There Is No Hope Here is the true story of the poor in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky and the efforts of a young woman named Julie Holland, who, in 1995, risked everything to bring them hope. The book depicts them deprived of proper clothing and shelter, and barely enough food to survive. Their burden was not lost on Julie as she tried to help them not only survive but to find an answer to the problem of poverty. The children are neglected, often abused, and void of those things most children take for granted. Yet, she manages to bring joy to their lives as she starts a mission that today is known as the Mission of Hope, based in Knoxville, Tennessee. The successful mission is one of the most respected in the southeast. Still, the children today have a bleak future waiting for them unless more is done, and there seems no political will to do anything.
Author's comments:
I wrote this book partly because of my curiosity why an affluent young woman would endanger herself in the unknown mountains of Appalachia and partly because of my concern that the poor are being considered expendable by our government. While there is always talk about helping the middle-class and reducing taxes for the wealthy, there is a disturbing silence regarding the poor and children who go to bed hungry. I have a BS in engineering and have been a freelance writer for several years.

The Bridge of Deaths by: M.C.V. Egan
Brief Synopsis:
On August 15th, 1939 an English passenger plane from British Airways Ltd. Crashed in Danish waters between the towns of Nykobing/Falster and Vordingborg. There were five casualties reported and one survivor. Just two weeks before Hitler invaded Poland with the world at the brink of war the manner in which this incident was investigated left much open to doubt. The jurisdiction battle between the two towns and the newly formed Danish secret police, created an atmosphere of intrigue and distrust. The five casualties are; Cesar Agustin Castillo, a bio-chemical engineer educated in both Germany and the USA, he is a Mexican national working for Standard Oil of New Jersey’s London branch. Samuel James Simonton, American national
also employed by Standard Oil of New Jersey’s London office with a very strong military back ground, graduate of West Point. Erich Bruno Wilhelm Beuss a German national a corporate lawyer who is travelling with his medals earned in World War I. Anthony Crommelin Crossley English Member of Parliament who is known and outspoken on the antipathy to Hitler and the
Munich Pact. He is also the sole defender of the Arab cause in the matter of Palestine in the 1930s. Alfred Stanley Mardsin Leigh, employee of British Airways LTD. The sole survivor is the Pilot Clifford Frederick Cecil Wright. In the winter of 2009-2010 a young executive, Bill is promoted and transferred to London for a major International firm. He has struggled for the better part of his life with nightmares and phobias, which only seem to worsen in London. As he seeks the help of a therapist he accepts that his issues may well be related to a 'past-life trauma’. His love interest Maggie helps him in his quest and realizes that she too is part of the events as much in the past as she is in 2009-2010. Maggie and Bill find that through their love and the courage to submit to past life regressions. They begin to find more questions than answers. They become very curious about events leading up to World War II and through archives and the information superhighway of the 21st century Bill and Maggie travel through knowledge and time to uncover the story of the 1939 plane crash. Their quest includes a friendship forged through Skype with a middle-aged woman in Florida obsessed with the truth about her grandfather’s death. This woman has been working for nearly two decades with archives in Denmark, England and the United States to unfold the mystery that left her family scarred and wondering. Her meticulous search and actual copies of documents in the book help the reader understand that we are indeed dealing with true events. All historical data is clearly documented and footnoted as many of the files used by the author were rather obscure and not found in any history books. All data from psychics and past life regressions is also very clearly documented.
The Bridge of Deaths is a love story and a mystery. Fictional characters travel through the world of past life regressions and information acquired from psychics as well as archives and historical sources to solve "One of those mysteries that never get solved" is based on true events and real people, it is the culmination of 18 years of sifting through sources in Denmark, England and the United States, it finds a way to help the reader feel that he /she is also sifting through data and forming their own conclusions. The journey takes the reader to well-known and little known events leading up to the Second World War, both in Europe and America. The journey also takes the reader to the possibility of finding oneself
in this lifetime by exploring past lives.
Author Bio:
M.C.V. Egan is the pen name chosen by Maria Catalina Egan the author of The Bridge of Deaths. Catalina was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1959, one of eight children. From a very young age she became obsessed with the story of her maternal Grandfather, Cesar Agustin Castillo, mostly the story of how he died. She only spent her childhood in Mexico. Her father became an employee of The World Bank in Washington D.C. From the early 1970 at the age of 12 she moved with her entire family to the United States. She was already fluent in Southern English as she had spent one school year in the town of Pineville, Louisiana with her grandparents. There she won the English award ironically being the only one who had English as a second language in her class. In the D.C. suburbs she attended various private Catholic schools and graduated from Winston Churchill HS in Potomac Maryland in 1977. She attended Montgomery Community College and studied in Lyons, France at the Catholic University for two years and in 1981 moved to Sweden where she resided for five years and taught at a language school for Swedish, Danish, and Finnish businesspeople. She returned to the USA where she has been living ever since. She is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Swedish.
Mrs. Egan has worked for various companies and holds an Insurance license for the State of Florida. Not her favorite field but involves very nice folks and makes money!
Maria Catalina Egan is married and has one son, who together with their five pound Chihuahua makes her feel like a fulltime mother. Although she would not call herself an Astrologer she has taken many classes and taught a few beginner classes in Astrology. This is one of her many past times when she is not writing or researching.
She celebrated her 52nd birthday on July 2nd 2011 and gave herself self-publishing The Bridge of Deaths as a gift; she never submitted it to anyone prior to this decision and has enjoyed the very positive feedback.

Kincaid's Hope by: Grace Greene
Brief synopsis
Beth Kincaid left her hot temper and unhappy childhood behind and created a life in the city free from untidy emotionalism, but even a tidy life has danger, especially when it falls apart.
In the midst of her personal disasters, Beth is called back to her hometown of Preston, a small town in southwestern Virginia, to settle her guardian’s estate and runs smack into the mess she’d left behind a decade earlier: her alcoholic father and the long-ago sweetheart, Michael, and the poor opinion of almost everyone in town. As she sorts through her guardian’s possessions, Beth discovers that the woman who saved her and raised her had secrets, and the truths revealed begin to chip away at her self-imposed control.
Michael is warmly attentive and Stephen, her ex-fiancé, follows her to Preston to win her back, but it’s the man she doesn’t know who could end, forever, Beth’s chance to build a better, truer life.

Stagger Bay by: Pearce Hansen
Markus, Stagger Bay’s protagonist, is a man who overcame a horrendous childhood and criminal youth to go straight and raise a family. His violent past makes him an easy fall guy to frame for a gruesome mass murder and he’s sentenced to life without parole, losing his family in the process.
Exonerated and freed on DNA evidence after seven years, Markus is shortly thrust into a bloody do-or-die fracas during an elementary school hostage situation, becoming an overnight hero. Everyone wants in on the media feeding frenzy; to his dismay, paparazzi and news crews hound him wherever he goes. Unfortunately they’re not the only ones stalking him.
Can Markus find the path back into his estranged son’s heart? What’s Markus supposed to do, when he discovers fifteen minutes of fame is the worst thing that could ever happen to him? What can he do, now that his town is hunting ground to serial killers and rogue cops working together – and the shadowy force behind them is turning its cold, deadly eye straight at him?
Stagger Bay is a battle of wills, where every moral choice seems only to increase the body count. It’s in the tradition of Paul Cain’s break-neck-paced Fast One, or Geoffrey Household’s feral man-against-the-world Rogue Male. Stagger Bay should appeal to readers looking for a fast paced, hyper-violent thriller.
Ken Bruen (author of Blitz starring Jason Statham; and of London Boulevard, soon to be a major motion picture): “Stagger Bay proves what noir purists have known for a long time: Pearce Hansen is the new Prince of Noir. For years he’s been turning out stunning nuggets of sheer black gold, and now he finally comes into his ascendancy with this mesmerizing novel.
“Imagine James Ellroy coupled with George R. R. Martin and overseen by Charles Willeford. But PH really needs no comparison to any other writer; he’s created his own compelling dark universe that ratchets up noir to an astonishing level.”
Jason Starr (bestselling author of The Pack and The Follower): "Pearce Hansen is the real deal, the Edward Bunker of our generation. Stagger Bay is a searing, powerful, heartbreaking novel, and an important contribution to contemporary crime fiction literature."
Anthony Neil Smith (Editor of Plots with Guns!, Associate Editor of the Mississippi Review, and author of All the Young Warriors): "Pearce is a wild man, and demands your attention. Hansen is definitely one of the gonzo crowd and deserves a stage with a loud amplifier and some bright lights."

RIVER IN THE SEA by: Tina Boscha
At fifteen, Leen De Graaf likes everything she shouldn't: smoking cigarettes, wearing red lipstick, driving illegally, and working in the fields. It seems the only thing she shares with her fellow Dutchmen is a fear of the German soldiers stationed nearby and a frantic wish for the war to end. When a soldier's dog runs in front of Leen's truck, her split-second reaction sets off a storm of events that pitches her family against the German forces when they are most desperate - and fierce. Leen tries to hold her family together, but despite her efforts, bit by bit everything falls apart, and just when Leen experiences a horrific loss, she must make a decision that could forever brand her a traitor, yet finally allow her to live as her heart desires. Inspired by the life of the author's mother, River in the Sea is a powerful and moving account of one girl reaching adulthood when everything she believes about family, friendship, and loyalty is questioned by war.
River in the Sea is available on amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JM04K0
Author Bio.: Tina Boscha lives in Oregon’s Willamette Valley with her husband and stepdaughters along with two nutty boxers and one silly black cat. She has an MFA in Fiction, is an Oregon Literary Arts Fellowship recipient, and her work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She teaches composition and technical writing, and for her next novel, The Sleeping Fields, she is working on a good old-fashioned ghost story. In her spare time (ha!) she sews and knits.
My Review of River in the Sea:
I have to confess I purchased this novel after reading the many positive reviews. I personally didn't think a novel that takes place in the Netherlands during World War II could possibly hold my interest. I have to say I was absolutely wrong! Tina Boscha's novel River in the Sea is an unbelievable novel that captures the reader's attention from the first page and never lets you go. I felt connected with the characters in this novel and all the trials the main character had to endure. I have witness cruelty in my life like the fear Leen felt when she hit the dog. (not during a war but cruelty non the less) The author took the fear of the German soldiers and ran with it. The emotions just pour from the pages as you read and continue to route for the characters. I can't remember ever shedding so many tears for one novel as the tears I shed for these character. Thank you Tina Boscha for writing a touching and realistic story.

I am a Holocaust researcher and published author. My epic historical fiction novel, Jacob’s Courage, could be of value in your mission. Jacob's Courage is a tender love story of two young adults living in Salzburg at the time when the Nazi war machine entersAustria. You can read some of the reviews and see the video trailer here: http://jacobscourage.wordpress.com/.
Jacob’s Courage is available in print and as an e-book, as well as from my publisher, Mazo Publishers. The book is distributed globally. Poachers by Stephanie Campbell
Book Bio:
Ronnie Toll has never played with other kids. He's never slept soundly throughout the night, turned a corner without checking first, or laughed for the sake of laughing. All Ronnie knows is a world of shadows and monsters. His mother and father, Marion and Leon, are the only ones by his side. But all that is about to change when his mother is murdered by the monsters that only he can see. With his only safe haven crumbling around him, Ronnie becomes a poacher for the other side to help protect human civilization as he knows it. The problem is, he’s taking on more than he bargained for when he tangles with creatures that are larger than life—and himself.
About Me:
Stephanie Campbell had her first book, Until We Meet Again, published at the age of seventeen. Now, at twenty, she is still wacking away at her computer, one day at a time. When she isn't reading or writing, she likes to dance, take karate lessons, and run. After all, you never know when you're about to be sucked into another world.
This is a little different, but I've provided a Halloween side story of my protragonist for readers to get a feel of my writing style. If it's okay, I'd like to include it.
The Curse of the Shadow
A Ronnie Toll Side Story
By Stephanie Campbell
Ronnie Toll sat at his desk, drawing a dark circle over and over again until his pen tore through the paper and ripped through to the other side. The girl that sat next to him, Lizzy, saw this and scooted her chair as far away from him as possible. Ronnie ignored her. In fact, he ignored everything.
The truth was, Ronnie had a very scary secret. He has been able to see dark, shadowy figures since birth, and they had been haunting him. His mother had taken him to multiple doctors, but nothing helped. Now, he went to a psychologist. Ronnie was convinced deep down that she was crazier than he was.
It was Halloween. Everybody in his class was excited and was going to go trick-or-treating. Last year, his parents had tried to take him, but he had ended up kicking some woman in the face. That had stopped the relentless cycle. Instead, he spent his day watching the door like a dog, ready to attack the first “shadow man” to creep through.
This year would be no different. While Lizzy showed off her sparkling princess costume and the rest of the class talked about their plans for the evening, Ronnie sat still and silent. Until the light in the classroom flicked off, of its own accord.
The whole class screamed in fear. Some of them tripped over their desks. Ronnie strained to hear a shadow monster, knowing that one was too blame. It was just too hard to tell, though, when his classmates were scrambling around like they were.
“QUIET!” Ronnie cried.
For the first time ever, they obeyed.
Lizzy clung onto his sleeve and said, “Ronnie, what is it? I want to go home! I want my Mom! This is so dumb. I hate Halloween.”
“Quiet,” Ronnie repeated.
That was when a dark shadow came pouring through the door. It was scary and fearsome, more solid than he had ever seen one before. The rest of the class won’t be able to see it, he thought, though he swore that some of the students leapt back in fear.
Ronnie pulled away from Lizzy and grabbed his math book, which was far too heavy for him normally. Now, it would be perfect. He had never tried to bludgeon a shadow to death before, but now he had no choice. Even if he hated his classmates, it didn’t mean that he wanted them dead. Here goes nothing, Ronnie thought.
He leapt forward, holding up his book and screaming like a warrior, “ARGHHHHH!”
That was when the shadow did something extraordinary, something that it had never done before. The shadow let out a shriek and screeched, “NOOOOO!!!!”
The shadow fled from the room as the rest of the class cheered behind him. He stared at where the shadow had been and felt his face flush—that had not been his shadow man. Something was rotten in the state of Denmark.
As Lizzy and one of the other students that usually teased him came up and patted him on the back, Ronnie stuck his head around the corner and groaned. Their math teacher, Mr. Clark, was lying on the floor from where he had tripped on the doorframe. He was in an all-black costume. Oh, no, Ronnie thought, realizing that Mr. Clark had been trying to scare them.
The class, who had just seconds before been cheering him on, turned against him. Lizzy and the rest of his fellow students shrieked, “Ronnie did it!”
Mr. Clark made a muffled sound against the carpet and looked up. By tonight, Mr. Clark would have two black eyes that would match his costume perfectly.

Mollie's War by Cyndee Schaffer
"Mollie's War" recreates a world that existed almost 70 years ago. It is not a tale of life on the battlefield but rather a tale of life and love.
Why did an average American woman become a WAC (Women’s Army Corps) during World War II and place herself in peril? Authors Cyndee Schaffer and Mollie Weinstein Schaffer, answer this question and more in the book, Mollie’s War, a story weaved around the collection of letters that Mollie wrote home to her family during WWII along with historical commentary concurrent with the letters. Published by McFarland Publishers in August 2010, Mollie’s War documents the human side of life during the war – a life that alternates between fear and romance, exhaustion and leisure. It took many letters home, sharing everything from daily challenges to exciting experiences (when the censors allowed) for her story, Mollie’s War, to emerge. What was it like to be in England while the country was under constant bombardment by unmanned German missiles? Imagine being among the first WACs to enter Normandy after the D-Day invasion. Consider using your foreign language skills from high school, as Mollie did in Normandy, and when she was transferred toParis serving as informal interpreter in both work and social situations. Envision a young Jewish woman in Frankfurt, Germany, on Rosh Hashanah, 1945, and walking with other soldiers and officers to the rededication of the only standing synagogue. The collection and story vividly depict Mollie’s experiences from her first train trip to Daytona Beach, Florida, for basic training in October, 1943, to the dramatic image of her seeing the illuminated figure of the Statue of Liberty in the midst of darkness as her ship approached the U.S. shores when she returned in November, 1945. This book may be the first collection of letters published by a Jewish American WAC. Mollie Schaffer lives in Illinois and is retired.

The Ashes of Innocence by Alexandra Tesluk
Press Release
The Ashes of Innocence: a triumph of the human spirit over adversity.
TORONTO – May 13, 2008 - The human spirit is a remarkable thing. It is strong, it is durable, it is resilient — and it is driven by our unyielding passion for life and living.
It is the human spirit that pushes us to rise above the troubles of our lives — our hurt, our fear, our anger and our heartbreak.
The life of Alexandra Tesluk, author of The Ashes of Innocence, has been one of pain and adversity; it has also been one of triumph, a triumph of that same, indomitable human spirit.
Tesluk is a product of the anguish of the Second World War, a child tossed on the seas of battle, abuse and abandonment. She is a survivor in the truest sense of the word — and she is the author of The Ashes of Innocence, a remarkable, intimate new book about the horrors of wartime and their corrosive, lifelong impact on those who have suffered through it.
Tesluk’s story is one filled with sorrow and separation. Her parents were forced into a camp for displaced persons in Germany. She never knew her father — and has spent much of her adult life in search of his ghost. Her mother was distant — in every way that matters. Her step-father was abusive. Her sister was prone to violent behaviour.
Emotionally scarred and physically beaten down, Tesluk has led a life touched by suicide, alcoholism and betrayal. Yet, through it all, Tesluk has risen above it all — she has found within herself the strength of character that wouldn’t allow her to lose.
She is a wife, a mother and a successful Canadian businesswoman. She has created a life for herself that at one time surely appeared out of her reach. And she has pieced together her life story in a book that is at once compelling and impossible to set aside.
As Tesluk writes in the dedication to The Ashes of Innocence: “This book is dedicated to the concept of hope, the kind of hope my parents never knew existed. This is my story of mental and physical abuse, slavery, sorrow and love . . . and ultimately, the victory of understanding.”
The Ashes of Innocence is Alexandra Tesluk’s gift to the reading public. It is also, in its own way, her gift to herself.

Hope is My Absolute by Alexandra Tesluk
Press Release
Hope Is My Absolute: a woman's battle to conquer leukemia.
We are all – each citizen of Planet Earth – on the journey of a lifetime. We will take differing roads and unique, separate pathways, but ultimately, we will all arrive at the same destination at life's end. For some, the road travelled will be regrettably short – and perhaps not so sweet. For others, it will be a long and winding road, a lifelong journey that will inevitably have its moments of joy, of pain, of satisfaction, of love, sorrow and perhaps even regret over dreams left unrealized.
Alexandra Tesluk knows, perhaps better than most, what a life's journey can reveal. She was born in a camp in war-ravaged Europe and, early in life, suffered a separation from her loving father and the emotional abuse of an indifferent, callous family life. She became a refugee to Canada, but felt isolated, never feeling as though she belonged, and had her education cut short. She married an abusive husband, finally leaving him to raise a child alone, and later became a very successful businesswoman, a wife for the second time, and a loving, nourishing mother. That part of her life's journey, that part of her inspiring story, was chronicled in her first published memoir entitled The Ashes of Innocence.
But the story of Alexandra Tesluk didn't stop there. Later in life – in Toronto, in the early autumn of 2008 – she was diagnosed with a severe, debilitating illnessknown as Acute Monocytic Leukemia, a disease that ravages the body and spares only the most fortunate – or perhaps the most courageous. Tesluk's most recent publication, Hope Is My Absolute: My Journey With Acute Monocytic Leukemia, is now in release, detailing the difficult pathway of Tesluk's journey along the road to cancer remission.
It is not enough to describe Hope Is My Absolute as a story of inspiration, although it is most certainly that. What makes this memoir both remarkable and memorable is its power, both in the narrative of the story itself and in Tesluk's informative, objective style of presentation. She details her medical journey as it walks her through the valley of fear and desperation and back onto the road of remission and newly gained health. The reader never once gets the sense that the author ever felt even remotely sorry for herself; what there is instead is the compelling, courageous story of a woman who was dealt a very difficult hand, but who used her resilience and the love of her family to summon up the courage to trump a disease that claims so many.
Hope Is My Absolute invites the reader to walk alongside author Tesluk on her gruelling, inspirational medical journey. It invites the reader to share in the fear that a blood-cancer diagnosis can bring; it takes the reader through the process of chemotherapy – the trauma of the procedure, the horrific nausea, the hair loss; it tells of the sorrow of the loss of hospital friends who didn't make it. Most of all, and certainly most importantly, it takes the reader straight through the process of treatment and healing and back into the bright, joyful light of healing and remission.
The medical journey of the battle against acute monocytic leukemia is remarkably compelling. The story that Alexandra Tesluk tells is even more so. Hope Is My Absolute is enriching, informative and a tribute to the strength and resilience of the human spirit.

My Review of Hope is My Absolute:
Hope is My Absolute
My Journey with Acute Monocytic Leukemia (AML) By: Alexandra Tesluk
After reading this memoir I felt a bit overwhelmed. Alexandra proved to me that with the strength and love of a strong family you can conquer anything. Her tale begins with her diagnosis, although the reader knows the actual diagnosis just by reading the cover, it is Alexandra’s words that bring the actual diagnosis to life.
Throughout the entire novel I found myself literally in tears. The struggles this woman had to overcome were far more than I had ever imagined a cancer patient had to endure. Although I have heard, as many people have heard, of the pain and sickness involved with the day to day living while on chemotherapy can be debilitating to say the least. Alexandra’s
explanation gives the reader a real dose of reality as to the amount of strength that is required just to open your eyes in the morning.
As I continued to read the entrancing memoir I found myself actually feeling the pain she must have felt being separated from her loved ones when the treatments made her weak and vulnerable to infection. Her husband helped by giving her love and support throughout this
trying time in both of their lives.
I have found a new super hero and her name is Alexandra Tesluk. She is far stronger than any other hero on the market. She has the strength and the courage of a warrior.
God bless you Alexandra for sharing your experiences.

In Due Season We Will Hear God's Voice by Leslie Trotter
There was never any doubt in my mind that God is present in his
children's lives.
I used to wonder if God spoke into our physical ears. I found out one night as
I was asleep and dreaming.
Being under so much stress and wanting to end my life, that is when God came in
and answered a question.
I wanted to know when things were going to get better in my life and
there was a myriad of other questions I asked him. His reply was short, sweet and
definitely comforting to my spirit.
He replied back to me by saying. "In due season, all in due time."
These were words I normally never used so I knew it was from God
especially as the day unfolded and other events that happen confirmed to me that it was
most definitely the voice of God. I had many angelic encounters and other supernatural
things that has happened in my life that verifies that the spiritual realm is real and that we
are not alone.

Nicholas by Cody W. Urban
Did you know Nicholas of Myra lived in a time of Roman oppressive turmoil and persecution? Did you know he is counted as patron saint of sailors and archers as well as children? When his faith was outlawed and his people afflicted, Nicholas boldly stood against the tyranny in such a way that I call him "the Batman of 300AD." After a betrayal, this average Roman soldier finds himself left for dead, floating in the ice-cold Danube River to the far north of Rome. If not for the aid of a clandestine race of Earth-bound Angels, known as Elves by the Scandinavians, Nicholas would have been a name long forgotten. After uncovering the truth behind his betrayal, and of the stolen love back home in Lycia, Nicholas leaves the Realm and travels with the Nordic sailors, honing his skills as a warrior, and ventures home on a path for revenge. His quest takes him to discover a far more sinister plot and brewing darkness in his homeland-one that plagues upon the innocence of youth-and the rushing river of destiny sweeps Nicholas upon a grand adventure culminating in the fulfillment of his destiny; to be the saint we now know as Santa Claus. Nicholas: The Fantastic Origin of Santa Claus written by Cody W Urban is the thrilling exploration into the legends and myths behind numerous Christmas traditions, from the Norse Yuletide to the Roman Sol Invictus, and a ride down the torrents of fate as a reluctant young man steps into the immortal shoes of the patron saint of children.

Born and raised in southern California, Cody W Urban has always had a passion for storytelling. His earliest memories include writing stories and having his mom do the actual writing because he was too young to spell. After writing numerous short stories and unfinished books through his young life, he wrote one story that close friends encouraged him to make into a movie. Feeling inspired, he wrote his first screenplay and rallied his friends, family, and church into producing MY BEST FRIEND. After making two feature films with 7D Studios, Cody has graduated from California State University, Northridge with a BA in Cinema and Television Arts and continues to work and strive to be the best writer, editor, and director he can be.
After writing myriad screenplays, a particular one garnered special attention at a festival. It was liked by the judges so much, they sent it to an agency and before long, Cody had himself representation at The Brogan Agency. After a period of time, he felt it a wise decision to adapt the screenplay into a novel, and thus Nicholas: The Fantastic Origin of Santa Claus was written.
In 2008, he married Heather and the two of them actively involve themselves in their church and with their beloved dogs, Juneau and Bailey.

Ink - by Holly Hood
Hope didn’t ask for much. Dancing, singing, hanging out with her best friend, Karsen, those are the things she loved. A worry free life is what she wanted. But when she parents suddenly get a divorce, Hope is forced to choose between staying in Georgia where everything is familiar and comfortable, or leaving behind everything she’s ever known and follow her dad to Cherry, California where everything and everyone is not as it appears.
Choosing to move to Cherry is a life changing experience. Thrust into a world where she is surrounded by the high-class and over privileged, Hope finds it near impossible to fit in. That is, until Slade comes along.
Hope knows she should stay as far away from him as possible, but she can’t seem to help herself. Dark and mysterious, covered in tattoos and piercings, Slade is every parent’s worst nightmare and every teenage girl’s fantasy. Part of the local band Evil Kings of Ink, his voice makes girls go weak in the knees, and Hope is no exception.
Problem is, the longer Hope stays in Cherry, the more she learns its secrets. There is something strange going on in Cherry. Something sinister. A girl has already died and everyone is pointing at Slade. Could there be more to him than meets the eye, or are the people of Cherry looking for a scapegoat?
As Hope’s life takes a turn from the ordinary and depressing to dangerous and wild, she’s not sure who to trust. Will Slade steal her heart, or will she fall victim to the hype?
